Best baby sunscreen consumer reports1/8/2024 Not to mention this ingredient has been linked to disrupting hormonal activity in humans as well, i.e. Bleaching has also been particularly prevalent in recent years due to rising sea temperatures. Hawaii has banned these two ingredients because of their harmful effects on the coral reef, specifically they cause bleaching. The worst of the bunch… Oxybenzone and octinoxate. Potentially Harmful Ingredients You Want To Avoid In Sunscreen again, sunscreen is obviously not the only cause leading to coral reef damage, using sunscreen that is free of harmful ingredients such as those listed below, is one simple way you can help protect coral reefs and aquatic life. And, while there is no one single solution when it comes to protecting them, i.e. These chemicals impair the growth and photosynthesis of plants and algae. Unfortunately, sunscreen ingredients have also been found to adversely affect other marine life. Without these algae, the coral “bleaches” (turns white), and often dies.”Ī separate study, published in the journal Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, shares Consumer Reports, also found that “baby coral exposed to oxybenzone exhibited signs of distress, including coral bleaching, a condition that leaves coral vulnerable to infection and prevents it from getting the nutrients it needs to survive.” The coral then becomes sick and expel their life-giving algae. “Researchers testing the effects of sunscreen on corals,” reports the National Park Service, explain that chemicals in sunscreen, such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, “can awaken coral viruses. So please note, I am not advocating that reef-safe sunscreen is the one and only solution to saving our reefs!īut, as shares the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, scientists have discovered that certain chemical ingredients found in our sunscreen products are also harming the coral on our reefs. There are numerous reasons as to why our coral reefs are being threatened - climate change, unsustainable fishing, land-based pollution, coastal development, disease, and invasive species. According to Be Reef Safe, it is estimated that more than 60% of the world’s coral reefs are at risk. It is estimated that every year, anywhere between 4,000 and 6,000 tons (!) of sunscreen washes into our oceans and deposits in coral reef areas, with the greatest damage found in popular reef areas in Hawaii and the Caribbean. Bonus if its packaged in eco-friendly materials, too.īelow I’ve included a list of non toxic and “reef-safe” sunscreen brands you might consider trying out.īut first, a few facts. While conventional sunscreen is better than no sunscreen at all, I personally prefer using non toxic sunscreen brands whenever possible. Is sunscreen part of your everyday skincare routine? If it’s not, maybe it’s time to consider adding it to your morning repertoire.

Protein drink water1/8/2024 You’re much better off getting protein from food-eggs, lean meat, poultry, beans, nuts, and dairy-which are naturally packed with vitamins and minerals, and, in some cases, antioxidants. “There has been a lot of research linking a diet high in ultra-processed foods to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other ailments. NZ Muscle Protein Sparkling water is a delicious dairy-free protein alternative made using hydrolysed collagen. “The proteins in these products are highly processed,” says Vallaeys. Many protein products also contain additives like artificial flavors and colorings, says Wright, and sometimes excess sodium and unexpected ingredients like inulin or carrageenan, which could cause digestive upset for some. “You’re left with the protein, but not the other components of the food,” says Charlotte Vallaeys, senior policy analyst for food and nutrition at Consumer Reports. Instead, companies extract the protein from the foods in a lab. Soy protein, pea protein, whey protein, or other similar ingredients found in protein powders and ready-made smoothies aren’t simply the whole food dried and ground into a powder. But in most cases, there are a number of reasons why it makes sense to stick with food rather than these drinks. No water No protein powder No shaker No problem: Our Isoclear Protein Clear Drink comes to you ready to drink - without weighing, mixing or time-consuming. “They may seem attractive because of their convenience,” says Lauri Wright, Ph.D., R.D.N., chair of the department of nutrition and dietetics at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, “but older adults typically can get enough through their normal diet.” There may be special cases where your doctor might recommend you use a protein powder or drink, such as after surgery or if you are ill and aren’t able to eat enough to meet your needs. 21.4g protein per serve 0g sugar 0g fat Dairy free Gluten free Light. “Protein is especially important in older men and women to maintain existing muscle mass and offset muscle losses with aging,” says Nancy Rodriguez, Ph.D., R.D., professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Connecticut.īut protein powders and drinks don’t necessarily deserve the “health food” status that so many people attribute to them. Dota hotkey kevin1/8/2024 Just watching the video and trying to imagine moving across the keyboard that quickly practically makes my wrists ache. He sends me a famous video of Korean player KangHo (see above) to illustrate how nimble and dexterous a pro has to be at this point in the game's history. "A good player will click once for everything and jump back and forth on the map a lot to control units at his opponents' bases as well as direct around units at home," said Weber. Who has the upper hand in a "StarCraft II" match can change in a matter of seconds, so a misplaced keystroke can be the difference between victory and defeat at critical moments. In "StarCraft II," the player keeps one hand on the mouse while the other remains firmly planted on the left side of the keyboard to be able to reach any number of hotkeys that are tied to particular actions instantaneously. "A guy like me can hit 300 APM easily," Weber continued, "but it's mostly wasted because the way I get there is just to click a lot, most of which are redundant actions - for example when I click for a unit to move I'll spam it 10 times to keep my speed up." Mechanics in 'StarCraft' refers to a player's speed, accuracy, ability to multitask, and efficiency."Ĭomparing himself to the pros, however, Weber said the speed isn't as important as what the player can do with it. "The way you talk about a player physically is similar to how you talk about a baseball player," Weber said. Games are often determined by which player is nimble enough to adapt to his opponent's forces. Each unit costs money, and a rock-paper-scissors-style logic makes every lightning-fast decision high risk. In a fast-paced multiplayer online battle arena game like "League of Legends" - the other major title on the professional gaming circuit - the player only controls a single hero, who runs around the map casting spells and killing bad guys.īut in the real-time strategy game "StarCraft II," a player must control hundreds of units: building defenses and gathering resources to produce soldiers, then mustering troops for battle, attacking and defending across multiple fronts. And while APMs might be measured for curiosity's sake in other games, they're more important in "StarCraft II" than any other e-sport simply because the game itself is so complicated. Matt Weber, director of operations for the online e-sports community Team Liquid, told NBC News that he thinks about it like a baseball player's pitching speed - for pro gamers, there are certainly factors other than sheer velocity, but it's an important first standard to determine who can make it to the top in the first place. All you could see of the player during the actual games were their two hands - one on the mouse and the other on the left side of the keyboard, both moving at a blinding speed. Each player was housed in a tiny windowed booth where they sat, their faces blocked from the audience by large computer monitors. At a recent tournament in New York, early attendees looked on with outright confusion as two players squared off against one another from opposite ends of the stage. For the uninitiated, watching a professional league video game tournament can be a dizzying affair.

Cheap decorative ceiling tiles1/8/2024 PVC tiles are used in standard drop or grid ceilings or mounted directly to the ceiling with an adhesive. PVC, vinyl, or plastic ceiling tiles are very versatile and are another inexpensive choice. Fiberglass tiles can be found at all major home improvement retailers. Prices can go up to $8.00 or $9.00 per square foot for very thick tiles that are designed to provide outstanding sound absorbing performance.Īrmstrong is the largest provider of residential fiberglass ceiling tiles but there are other brands including Top Tile. Most inexpensive Fiberglass ceiling tiles cost about $.50 to $1.50 per square foot. Because Fiberglass tiles are laminated with vinyl, painting them is not recommended. Most Fiberglass tiles are available in a 2’ x 4’ size and for installation into drop ceiling grids. Fiberglass is usually selected when thermal or acoustic properties are desired. Tiles are mainly white and lightly textured. They are maintenance-free and durable, but careful, or professional installation is necessary to prevent the fiberglass material from breaking loose.įiberglass tiles are easy to find but there are not as many styles available as there are with some of the other materials. Fiberglass tiles provide insulating properties and are very good at absorbing sound. Fiberglass Ceiling Tilesįiberglass ceiling tiles are another inexpensive choice and are made from glass fibers encased in resins and formed into tiles. You can find selections of USG, Armstrong, and other brands of Mineral Fiber ceiling tile at most home improvement stores. For instance, the Armstrong Tincraft profile tile, which has been embossed to replicate the look of an antique tin ceiling, costs around $6.50 per square foot. Mineral Fiber ceiling tiles can cost more depending on the thickness of the tile, the texture, and level of moisture and stain protection that the tiles have been treated with. Armstrong also offers a number of inexpensive Mineral Fiber ceiling tiles in all 3 sizes with costs from $1 to $2.50 per square foot. Costs for lightly textured tiles in their Budget Line, including the Stonehurst and Adobe profiles, range from $.50 to $1 per square foot. USG makes a large variety of cheap Mineral Fiber ceiling tiles in 2’ x 2’, 2’ x 4’ and 12" x 12" sizes. These tiles can be painted with latex paints but paint will slightly reduce their sound absorbing abilities by filling some of the crevices. Mineral Fiber ceiling tiles can be used in almost any room, except a bathroom, as long as the tiles have been treated with a moisture protection product. You can find them in 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ sizes for standard drop ceilings and in 12” x 12” sizes made to be mounted directly to the ceiling surface with an adhesive. Mineral Fiber tiles are very common and widely available. However, the tiles on the market today are generally treated with products making them resistant to these issues – at least for a time. When they do, they are prone to mold, mildew and sagging. Mineral Fiber tiles are not very durable and will absorb moisture in damp areas. Many of the tiles are made with fissures or perforations to give them better acoustical properties. Because the tiles are wet-formed, they can be pressed to replicate the appearance of tin ceilings or heavy stucco. The tiles are available in many textures from smooth to heavily textured. Mineral fiber tiles are made from various recycled materials including paper, fiberglass, perlite, and mineral wool combined with binding agents and formed into tiles. You can find these tiles, as well as other brands, at most big box home improvement stores. Fiberboard ceiling tiles can easily be painted. Their Alpine profile features more acoustic properties and costs about $.95 per square foot, which is still pretty cheap – less than $200 for a 12x15 room. USG makes a variety of fiberboard ceiling tiles in 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ sizes with costs between $.55 and $.65 per square foot for their Fifth Avenue and Radar profiles. Some fiberboard tiles have been treated to resist moisture damage and sagging but this will make the tiles slightly more expensive.įiberboard ceiling tiles would not be a good choice for a humid environment like a damp basement or bathroom. While fiberboard is the one of the cheapest ceiling tiles materials, it is not the most common because it is not durable and is susceptible to mold, mildew, sagging, staining, and water damage. Fiberboard is one of the least expensive types of ceiling tile.

ICalamus for windows instal1/7/2024 I still create several new designs every week and love working with Illustrator. I hate to give up and let technology pass me by. I am 66 years old now and close to retiring. Just as cable and internet providers keep increasing the monthly fee, I am sure this will double within a year or two. That comes to about $240 per year and the limited offer means that will increase in time. This is also the price listed on line for subscribing to Illustrator. More power to them, don't alienate your other users. Please let me continue to use this software in the way that I have used it for so long.
